Stock bottom end

The graph below is a bone stock LQ4 bottom end with ARP rod bolts and a Melling oil pump. The heads are factory untouched 317's with the exception of Lunati dual springs and retainers and Ferrea stainless valves. The cam is a custom piece spec'd by FlowTech Induction/Ed Curtis. Dude you need to realize, that 515 to the wheels is over 600 to the crank. I would not even think about putting that much power to a stock block and imagine it to perform for long. You are better off building your bottom end and go from there. That stock two bolt bottom end lasted about 1000 miles before some bearings gave up. I now have a Golen 383 4 bolt with an Eagle 4340 forged crank and H-beam rods, Mahle forged pistons flat top -5cc. Cam is now 230* 600" on a 107 lsa. Haven't fully wrung it out on the dyno yet, but at 5000rpm it was making almost the same #'s and climbing.

To our knowledge, this is the first stock bottom end 4.8-liter LS in the 4-second range in the 1/8-mile. Secondly, even though the Mustang reset the 1/4-mile record too, it was down on mph. So what changed since the cars last outing?

would the 224/236 be a good cam to go with??? i may go ahead and port and polish the stock heads and intake. but i will leave the bottom end stock.

13 Sep 2014 How well will the 454 stock bottom end last? I've got over 100 passes on a 2 bolt block and cast crank with a bit more power than that. I have been searching for months on a deinitive answer as to how strong a 351 bottom end is. The closest I got was Turbogumbys post. I know you must keep the rpms down and I know how strong the block is but What I have is a 97 rollor motor and I want to do arp hardware where needed and forged pistons. The weakest link on the 6.4L’s bottom end seems to be the pistons, but it’s not as cut and dry as you might think. While some crack under extreme power conditions, most failures occur due to age, and it can even happen on stock or “tune-only” trucks. After this stock bottom-end LB7 had large injectors, a big single, and a hard-hitting nitrous system thrown at it, it didn’t take long for the rods to exit the block.
