The Canadian government has opted to buy a pipeline project that will more than double the oil its energy industry can send to the West Coast — and then on to new markets in Asia. Feeder Pipelines transport crude oil, natural gas, and other products such as natural gas liquids (NGLs) from batteries, processing facilities, and storage tanks to transmission pipelines. These pipelines are also mainly concentrated in the producing areas of western Canada.

Pipelines meet Canadian needs. Pipelines are necessary to deliver fuel for Canadians to heat their homes, drive their cars and travel by bus, ship, train and air. Cars, buses, trains, boats and airplanes are all fuelled by petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel. Pipelines in Canada. Pipelines are systems of connected pipes used to transport liquids and gases — namely oil and natural gas — across long distances from source to market. More than 840,000 km of pipelines criss-cross the country, part of a larger oil and gas sector that employs between 100,000 and 200,000 Canadians.

Oil pipelines. Since it is Canada's largest oil producing province, Alberta is the hub of Canadian crude oil pipeline systems. About 415,000 kilometres (258,000 mi) of Canada’s oil and gas pipelines operate solely within Alberta’s boundaries and fall under the jurisdiction of the Alberta Energy Regulator.

These pipelines are also mainly concentrated in the producing areas of western Canada. Canada’s vast network of pipelines transport millions of litres of oil and gas under our feet every day.
